✝ ♡ Interview with Creepyyeha ♡ ✝

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve heard of the talented Lisa Leung, also known as Creepyyeha. With her unique fetish and Japanese inspired style and designs (which include accessories, clothing and lingerie) that contrast hard and soft, dark and light, devilish and angelic, she has become somewhat of a style icon to the online world. Being an admirer of her personal style and design collections myself, I was super excited to interview Yeha about her and her design work!

Tell us a bit about yourself and where you’re from.
My real name is Lisa Leung. I am 20 and I was born in New York. I am 100% Chinese. The name Yeha is how you pronounce my name in Chinese 🙂

Who are your top style icons?
This is really tough because I have many style icons! But I would have to say that Bettie Page is a huge inspiration. She definitely takes the cake.

What do you consider to be your wardrobe staples?
High heels are a must!

Where do you like to shop most?
I usually shop in random asian clothing stores in flushing and alter them. Etsy and ebay have a lot of great finds that are cheap! But of course, you must have an idea of what you are searching for and Taobao. Physically, I shop anywhere! H&M, Forever 21… etc.

Where are your favourite places to hang out?
I don’t go out much really! I am more of a home body. But when I do go out, I usually go to the city to meet with friends in Chinatown or Soho 🙂 If I could, I would LOVE to hang out at Six Flags all day ha ha

Who are your favourite fashion designers, artists and/or creative people?
Rei Kawakubo is by far the best in my list of designers. My favorite artists are Aya Takano, Gottfried Helnwein, Hans Bellmer, ARAKI, so much more. My underground favorites are Siendonube and

Yuta Sakakibara at the moment. My favorite creative person is my boyfriend. His name is Alejandro Ramirez Lafontant. He is a very talented designer/artist/DJ… it goes on 😀

What have you been listening to lately?
These past days I started listening to Indigo. I have a wide variety taste in music.

Now moving onto your design work. How long have you been a designer for and what first got you into it?
There was isn’t a time where I just started calling myself a designer. It is just what I have always known.

Like many stories from other designers, it started at a very young age. I never questioned what it is that I wanted to do. I just did what I knew and progressed on the way.

How did you come up with the name creepyyeha?
Well, I am terrible with coming up names. I didn’t want a name like teenagebarbiequ33n. I dislike my english name Lisa because it is very boring. My boyfriend made me appreciate my Chinese name more so I chose Yeha because I figured it would be different and more memorable than Lisa. Creepy just came about because I am indeed a creep and slightly perverted.

Describe your design aesthetic in a few words or phrases.
Clothing – Provacative, dark, fetish, avant garde.
Accessories – fetish, babydoll.

How is your personal style reflected in your design work? Or is there anything you’ve designed that’s different to your personal style?
My personal style is actually all black. The pink side of me is a reflection of my personal fetishes. If you are familiar with my work, you can tell that there is a sweet and dark side to my designs. I feel that every female (or male) has both sides of the story to tell about themselves. So I like to incorporate that into my designs using something that is portrayed as angelic and sweet and turn it into something “badass”. I love using leather (mostly faux) and mixing it with lace, ruffles… etc. Things that you normally wouldn’t think go together until proven otherwise… Making the ugly into something beautiful… The flower and spike combo – I feel has been overdone but it will always be an all time classic design for me.

What is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is ARAKI. The art of bondage. I love that I feel most powerful through restriction. Also Japanese Street Fashion. This day and age, who isn’t inspired by it 🙂

What was your first design piece you ever made?
Haha my first design piece was when I was 10. I used to take ballet classes and I decided I hate dancing so I tore up all my pink stockings, ribbons and tutus and sewed them together into a new piece that looked rather neat. It is a shame that I do not have a photograph of it. I was rather young and I was afraid of my mother finding it so I hid it in my underwear drawer.

What are your top 5 items such as design tools or technology you couldn’t live without?
Definitely can’t live without an awl, sewing machine, fabric, and most importantly, my hands and mind.

What is your favourite piece you’ve ever designed?
I made quite a few favorites when I was in college. You cannot see the details in image of course but I am rather proud of it! It is a half jacket with a detachable collar [see below]. It is held up by elastic and suspenders.

The skirt has flaps on one side and one of the flaps can be used to cover the bare half or the chest by using a elastic and suspender. They all have this repetitive detail to it which is the boning. I was inspired by this image.

Any particular memorable responses you’ve received about one of your designs?
I like to hear that people are comfortable and happy when wearing my designs. It is all I hope to hear.

What would be your ultimate dream in terms of your work?
I don’t have a dream. I just work and wherever my designs take me, so be it.

Something you’re looking forward to?
I look forward to the day where I am 100% satisfied.
